Making Maths Fun!

I am still working on the projects pages - trying to get the Maths one up soon as possible. But in the meantime, and given that we have been using these this week - here are a couple of maths resources to keep you going!
First is The Multiplication Tables Colouring Book The children work out the answers to a multiplication table and use the answers to colour in a picture puzzle (and so reveal a hidden image). They have been fun, and there is a second multiplication book, and an addition one. You will find a full list at Tarquin Books.
The other thing we have been doing this week is Suduko and Kakuro puzzles. There are several childrens Suduko books around - try The Kids’ Book of Sudoku. I have spent ages trying to find a suitable Kakuro book for my seven year old. And finally! In a bargain bookshop! I found Kakuro for Kids 1: Ninja Edition
. Its pitched perfectly and even lists the combination of numbers that make up the target number. (And if you don’t know how to do Kakuro, it has detailed instructions!)

Can I recommend the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary of Maths?
Its become an invaulable book in our house, My daughter really enjoys being able to look up for herself the explainations of things she finds difficult. Its got clear explainations and examples for anything she finds difficult. I think it will be useful right up to GCSE level. The RRP is £9.99 but we got our copy from the book people for £2.99!
Thanks Jenny. I have now added this to the Maths page (under projects).
