The Dreamboard

One of my roles as a parent (as I see them) is to ensure that my children understand the concept of ‘goal-setting’ - how to set a goal and work towards achieving it, and to inspire them to have great dreams and hopes for their future. This New Year we are going to create a DreamBoard.
A DreamBoard is a large collage of images of things you would like to see, have or do. This can be done on a large piece of card but we will probably make one in our journals. I have been thinking about how to present the DreamBoard idea to my children. I am going to tell them that it is a place to let their imaginations soar. That we are going to put into pictures all their dreams and hopes, so that we can keep a track of which ones come true, and when! I will ask them :
- Which people do you love, and want to have around you?
- What would you like to be really good at?
- What would you really like to have or do?
- How would you like to feel?
- What would be your best day ever?
I want to open up a world of possibilities to them - to help them understand that sometimes we have to wait for these things, but that shouldn’t stop us dreaming. I am also hoping that we will look at which goals are achievable and how we can work towards making them a reality.

Neat idea, do you have any experience of what ages dreamboards are best used for?

Hi John.
My 7yo grasped the concept easily but was less skillful than my 9yo in coming up with non-materialistic goals. It was fun to do though, and I think it will lay a good foundation for goal-setting as they get older.
Thanks for the comment.
